The Dialogue Surrounding AI and Games is More Important Than Ever
As part of the “Transformations – Dynamics of Change” conference hosted by the Cologne Game Lab, the segment “AI and Games: Synthetic Play and the Creative Ecology of AI” took center stage. As the Summit Organizers, we had the privilege of actively shaping this program and bringing it to life alongside a lineup of inspiring speakers.
Special thanks go to Björn Bartholdy for the organization and to the City of Cologne, whose support for this project provided the space for exchange, reflection, and new impulses. Formats like these are essential to ensure we don’t just observe technological developments, but categorize and evolve them together.
A particular highlight was the presentation by Lars Christian Grabbe. His perspective on “Design Research and AI”went far beyond technical content, raising profound philosophical questions about the role of AI in creative processes. It is exactly this mix of practice, research, and reflection that makes events like this so valuable.
The summit once again demonstrated how vital an open dialogue about new technologies and their applications in the games industry truly is. We look forward to continuing the discussions sparked here and to creating further spaces for such conversations in the future.
